The Impact of a Garden

24-06-2022 07:00

Learn how the development of a food garden in the little town of Woorabinda in Queensland’s Fitzroy region has contributed to building a stronger, more connected and healthier community. The project, which was five years in the making, started when the local state school worked with local Aboriginal elders to create a substantial school garden where the children could learn how to grow food and stay healthy. Despite setbacks caused by Covid-19 and other challenges, the project has since grown to be a long-term community wide project – providing a case study of the importance of collaboration, communication and respecting community and cultural time frames for successful project outcomes, as well as the impact on-ground investment can have when it comes to providing sustainable community infrastructure. Presenter: Vicki Horstman. PowerPoint slides: The Impact of a Garden.
