In four short years, Bangalow Koalas, have worked at creating a Koala Wildlife Corridor, expanding and connecting existing koala habitats from Byron Bay and surrounds out towards Tenterfield, north to the Queensland border and south towards Grafton. A community group of more than 100 members devoted to protecting the Northern Rivers koala populations, Bangalow Koalas have carried out 34 plantings on 28 properties across the Northern Rivers, planting 55,000 koala and rainforest trees in just over two years; with their sights now set on planting over 250,000 by the end of 2025. Recent partners with the Minyumai Land Holding Aboriginal Corporation in Coraki, Bangalow Koalas are working to get Minyumai rangers back on country; beginning their collaboration with the planting of 3,500 koala and rainforest trees in Swan Bay. Now the go-to koala group amongst Byron Shire Council locals, Bangalow Koalas have won the hearts of locals along their journey to help save and protect koala populations across thousands of kilometres.
